Athletics

Highland athletics functions as a vital facet of our program. Our conviction is that competition of various forms provides rich opportunities for the development of godly character in our athletes and school family. Central to our vision for athletics is a commitment to the glory of God. Paul commends us toward this priority in 1 Corinthians 10:31 where he says, “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Coach Tony Long brings more than 30 years of experience in education, athletics, and school leadership. He earned his degrees from Valdosta State University and Troy University, where he completed a Specialist degree in Physical Education, Coaching Pedagogy, and Educational Leadership. After recently retiring from public education, he is thankful for the opportunity God has given him to continue serving students through Christian education.

Throughout his career, Coach Long has taught students of all ages, coached a variety of sports, and served in several leadership roles. Along the way, he has been blessed to receive recognition in both education and athletics, but he considers the relationships he has built and the lives he has been able to impact to be far more meaningful than any award.

For more than 30 years, Coach Long has also served as a strength and conditioning coach, helping hundreds of young athletes grow in confidence, discipline, and character. Many have gone on to compete at the collegiate and professional levels, but his greatest passion has always been using athletics as a way to mentor young people and point them toward Christ.

Coach Long’s best friend and wife of 27 years, Amanda, have been blessed with two children, Darren and Dallas. Together, they are excited to become part of the Highland Christian Academy family.
